Keir Starmer is Out: British PM Resigns After Party Mutiny
Well, that didn't last very long. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is officially packing his bags at Downing Street after his own party decided they had enough of his leadership.
Remember when Starmer won big and promised a decade of calm? Yeah, about that. After a brutal thrashing in local elections, where his Labour Party lost Wales and dropped over a thousand seats, the knives came out. He tried to play it cool and ignore the disaster, but you can only ignore a hundred of your own MPs and cabinet ministers publicly demanding you leave for so long.
So, he went to the King, did the whole "it's not me, it's the country" speech, and announced his exit. He is staying on just long enough to hand over the keys before September, with Andy Burnham already warming up on the sidelines.
From a Ukrainian perspective, it's a bit of a bummer. Whatever you thought of his domestic policy, Starmer was rock solid on military aid for Ukraine. Now we get to play the lottery all over again.
British politics has officially returned to its favorite hobby of chewing up and spitting out prime ministers faster than they can learn where the light switches are in Downing Street.
