Hungary and Ukraine just signed a "historic" deal on Zakarpattia

Original version ·

After years of blocking EU talks and yelling about language laws, Hungary and Ukraine have suddenly agreed on ethnic Hungarian rights in Zakarpattia. Or at least, that’s what we are being told.

Remember how Budapest spent years using the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia as a universal veto card for literally everything Ukraine wanted in Europe? Well, apparently, that era of endless drama just got a massive plot twist.

Hungarian politician Peter Magyar announced that the two countries have officially put a "historic" agreement into force. Yes, the very same issue that was supposed to be an unsolvable, eternal geopolitical roadblock was apparently solved with a signature.

No loud fireworks, no dramatic debates, just a sudden "it's done."

It turns out geopolitical "red lines" are remarkably flexible when someone actually wants to get things moving.
