Germany wants a slice of the Ukraine drone expertise pie

Original version ·

Turns out the student is becoming the teacher as Berlin looks to trade cash for Kyiv's battle-tested drone secrets.

Alexander Hoffmann, a top dog from the CSU in the Bundestag, just dropped a spicy take: Germany should ink a formal deal to get its hands on Ukraine’s drone tech. The pitch is simple enough—Berlin has been sending mountains of gear and cash, so now they want a piece of the R&D action in return.

It’s a funny twist. Ukraine has turned into a global lab for low-cost, high-impact aerial warfare, and Germany wants that "made in Ukraine" know-how to beef up its own defense industry fast. Apparently, Hoffmann thinks it’s only fair that if Germany pays the bills, they should get the keys to the kingdom when it comes to anti-drone and cruise missile innovations.

It is a refreshing change of pace to see a major power realize that sometimes the best tech advice comes from the people actually fighting a war. The world is watching to see if Kyiv will share the secret sauce or keep its strategic advantage under wraps.

About time. They gave the money, now they want the tech. Seems like a fair deal for both sides.

Lol, imagine telling a country under siege to 'share its secrets' so you can catch up. The irony is thick today.
