Why is Germany making toilets 24/7 but weapons only 40 hours a week?
Our ambassador in Germany went on a factory tour and accidentally exposed the most hilariously tragic priority gap in modern European defense.
Ukrainian ambassador Oleksii Makeiev recently went on a regional tour with other diplomats in Germany. They visited the headquarters of Villeroy & Boch, the famous luxury ceramics brand. The company hosts proudly boasted that their factories run 24/7 to keep up with global demand.
This is where the diplomat's brain short-circuited. He looked at them and asked the ultimate question: how on earth is Europe producing high-end toilet bowls around the clock, while military plants making shells and air defense systems shut down on weekends and stick to a cozy 40-hour workweek?
While the German government is trying to help, the local industry and public still lack any sense of urgency. To many Germans, weapons are still "something bad" that shouldn't be rushed, whereas a new porcelain sink is apparently an absolute national emergency.
A continent that sleeps peacefully while its future is decided on a 40-hour weekly shift deserves all the dry humor it gets.
