Germany bets billions that the best way to handle Putin is a massive tab

Original version ·

Germany just dropped their 2027 budget plans, and it turns out they are ready to break their own piggy bank for defense.

Germany finally decided that their traditional obsession with a balanced budget is effectively useless when someone like Vladimir Putin is on the doorstep. The government just greenlit a 2027 plan that includes a staggering 109.7 billion euros for defense, which is basically a 30% jump.

The best part? They didn't forget us. A cool 11.6 billion is already earmarked for military aid to Ukraine. They aren't even pretending to be frugal anymore, with plans to rack up nearly 200 billion in new debt to keep the lights on and the tanks running.

Apparently, you can't save your way out of a war.
