France wants us flying Rafale jets and building our own SCALP missiles

Original version ·

Just when everyone thought European defense was all talk, Macron and Zelenskyy dropped a roadmap that reads like a sci-fi wishlist for the Ukrainian military.

The French are apparently skipping the usual "we are deeply concerned" phase and going straight to "let's build some heavy weaponry together." We are talking about a joint plan to get French Rafale fighter jets into Ukrainian hands, alongside high-tech SAMP/T NG air defense systems.

But the real kicker isn't just buying the shiny toys. Ukraine is planning to set up licensed domestic production of French missiles, including the famous SCALP cruise missiles and Aster 30 interceptors.

Instead of waiting in endless lines for shipments, the goal is to manufacture this gear right at home. Of course, building a highly sensitive missile factory in a country currently being bombed sounds like a logistical nightmare, but the sheer ambition of this roadmap is wild.

Moving from "please send us old Soviet spare parts" to "we are building French cruise missiles under license" is quite the glow-up.
