All 27 EU states greenlight key accession clusters for Ukraine

Original version ·

In a rare moment of total consensus, Brussels agreed to unlock the core economic chapters for Ukraine and Moldova.

Every single member state has officially signed off on opening clusters 2 and 3 in accession negotiations with both Ukraine and Moldova.

Behind the dry Euro-speak, these aren't just polite diplomatic handshakes. Cluster two is the actual engine room: the internal market, meaning the free movement of goods, workers, services, and capital. Cluster three covers competitiveness, the digital economy, and science. In short, the hard nuts and bolts that determine whether an economy can survive inside the bloc without imploding.

Irish Europe Minister Thomas Byrne broke the news first, branding it a "Super Tuesday" right after Montenegro checked off a few chapters of its own. European Council President António Costa promptly confirmed it, framing expansion as the continent's top geopolitical priority.

True European integration does not happen at press conferences with blue flags; it happens in thousands of pages of soul-crushing market compliance.
