The EU is drafting a roadmap for Ukraine, but don't hold your breath just yet
The European Commission is finally getting real about expansion, acknowledging that bringing Ukraine into the fold is a total geopolitical priority.
So, the European Commission finally dropped its big strategy for future expansion. It basically admits that keeping Ukraine out isn't an option anymore, citing our grain and defense sector as key reasons. Marta Kos, the commissioner in charge, says we are finally looking at a real roadmap rather than just vague promises.
Here is the kicker: they want us integrated, but they’re already eyeing ways to cap our agriculture exports once we’re in. They’re also pushing to ditch the 'unanimity' rule for a lot of decisions, meaning individual countries won't be able to veto everything anymore. They are literally redesigning the engine while the car is still moving at 100 mph.
They’ve even proposed an 'institutional safeguard'—a fancy term for saying they can strip a country of its voting rights for up to 15 years if they decide you’ve stopped playing by the rules.
It turns out the road to Europe is paved with fine print, conditional roadmaps, and enough legal jargon to keep lawyers busy until the next century.
