EU to let Ukraine shop for British weapons with 60B loan

Original version ·

Looks like the EU and UK finally found a way to play nice, and the shopping list just got a lot more interesting.

It turns out that when you have a 60 billion euro credit line, you should probably be allowed to spend it where the hardware is actually good. After months of bickering over fees and administrative red tape, the EU is finally opening the door for Ukraine to buy British gear using these funds.

Previously, everyone was getting hung up on the UK's entry fee for EU defense schemes. Now, they've realized it's much faster to just let the cash follow the supply chain. This effectively lets Ukraine bypass the local-only purchasing rules that were making everyone's head spin. The deal is expected to be finalized in Paris shortly, with countries like the Netherlands pushing hard to get it moving.

It is almost refreshing to see bureaucracy lose to the simple logic of needing stuff that shoots accurately.
