EU Greenlights First Round of Accession Talks for Ukraine on June 15
We are officially moving past the flirting stage with the EU. On June 15, things get real as we start talking actual business.
EU leaders are practically throwing confetti. The new head of the European Council, António Costa, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that all member states agreed to open the first "Fundamentals" cluster of negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova.
This isn't just bureaucratic paper-shuffling. This cluster covers the heavy stuff: democracy, justice, and the rule of law. Basically, Brussels wants to make sure we actually behave like a proper democracy before we get the keys to the club. The hilarious part is we are starting this under the presidency of Cyprus, and they've scheduled the big meeting for Monday, June 15.
The EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, already told everyone to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Getting in is going to take a lot of homework, but at least the door is officially unlocked from the inside.
