The EU visa-free dream now comes with a €7 ticket called ETIAS
Remember when a biometric passport was all someone needed to hop on a flight to Rome? The EU decided traveling needed a little more paperwork nostalgia.
The long-delayed ETIAS system is finally gearing up for launch. Non-EU travelers from visa-exempt countries—including Ukrainians—will now have to fill out a digital form and pay a €7 fee before boarding any flight.
The electronic permit stays valid for three years or until the passport expires. Automated systems are supposed to approve the vast majority of applications in minutes, comparing traveler data against security databases.
Freedom of movement didn't end, it just switched to a low-cost subscription model cheaper than an airport cappuccino.
