Drones just visited a major Transneft oil hub way out in the Urals
If anyone still thought Russian oil infrastructure deep past the Volga was safe, today’s smoke in Bashkortostan begs to differ.
Long-range drones made an early morning detour to the Subkhankulovo station in Bashkortostan. This is not some sleepy roadside depot with a few leaky barrels. It is a critical dispatch and pumping nexus for Transneft – Ural, sitting right on the trunk pipelines that shuffle crude across the Urals.
Locals woke up to loud bangs followed by thick black smoke billowing over the facility. The station handles dispatch control, massive tank farms, and pressurized pumping across several regional conduits.
Taking out the technical control nodes that keep high-pressure crude moving does infinitely more damage than puncturing a random storage tank. When the dispatch hub coughs, the entire pipeline network backs up.
Turns out "deep in the rear" is rapidly becoming an outdated geographical concept.
