Drones Hit Saint Petersburg Oil and VKontakte Servers

Original version ·

Burning fuel is routine by now, but taking down Russian social media racks over a thousand kilometers away hits a completely different nerve.

Ukrainian FP-1 drones paid a late-night visit to Saint Petersburg, hitting two massive fuel depots and—just for good measure—a key tech hub.

Fires erupted at the local export terminal and the Ruchyi depot, but the real plot twist landed in Novosergeyevka. Drones slammed straight into a major VKontakte data center housing over twenty thousand servers. Russian users immediately watched feeds crash and photos fail to load because their cloud literally caught fire.

Wiping out export fuel and the country's primary scroll habit in one go is certainly an efficient way to make a point.
