Russia is cannibalizing its own infrastructure in Crimea to patch holes
It turns out when you run out of spare parts, the best strategy is just stealing from your own dead projects.
So, the ATESH partisan movement reports that Russia has started ripping massive transformers out of the North Crimean Canal pump stations. Why? Because they literally don't have any spares left. They are cannibalizing their own inactive infrastructure to fix electrical substations Ukraine successfully turned into scrap metal.
It is honestly kind of poetic. The North Crimean Canal has been a glorified dry ditch since the Kakhovka Dam went down, so the pumps were just sitting there gathering dust. Now, those powerful 10-40 MVA units are being dragged off to keep the radar, air defense, and military rail hubs running. It is a desperate game of musical chairs where the music stopped a long time ago.
The real kicker is that these parts take over a year to manufacture and sanctions have locked the door on buying new ones. Every time the Defense Forces of Ukraine land a solid hit on the grid, the invaders have fewer "donors" to strip for parts. Eventually, the donor graveyard will be empty.
There is no plan B for a country that treats its entire occupied territory like a spare parts bin.
