CIA Boss Sneaks into Moscow to Pitch a Trump-Zelensky-Putin Mega-Summit
Because when standard diplomacy hits a wall, sending the spy chief to ask the FSB nicely is apparently plan A.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe took an unannounced trip to Moscow to test whether Russia's spy chiefs could coax Vladimir Putin back to the negotiating table.
The centerpiece proposal was a direct three-way summit between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Putin. Team Trump had tossed the idea around before — Zelenskyy was up for it, but Putin flatly shut it down.
While in the Russian capital, Ratcliffe met with Foreign Intelligence Service head Sergey Naryshkin and FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov. Word is, the American spy boss walked away convinced that Bortnikov was actually a constructive player who might help get peace talks moving again.
Relying on the FSB to moonlight as peacemakers is certainly an optimistic strategy.
