China is giving Shaheds a turbojet glow-up
Those buzzing Iranian pests are evolving into actual missiles, and we have Beijing to thank for the speed boost.
So, the Shahed drones are getting a massive performance bump. Instead of the lawnmower engines we’re used to, they are now packing Chinese-made turbojet engines. These things are flying almost three times faster than before, turning what used to be a slow-moving nuisance into something much closer to a cruise missile.
The funny thing is, the company behind these engines, Telefly Telecommunications Equipment, tried to wipe the evidence from their English website the second they got caught. They clearly forgot that the internet is forever, especially when you leave the Chinese-language version of the page untouched.
It’s a classic case of Western components like Texas Instruments or STMicroelectronics slowly getting replaced by hardware from China. They’ve swapped out the old tech for better antennas and modems, making these drones much harder to shake off.
It’s wild how a company that supposedly makes regular computer gear ends up powering one of the most dangerous weapons of the year. Apparently, the global supply chain is just a suggestion these days.
