Chamber of Commerce advisor wants €100k for drone paperwork
Nothing says 'patriotism' like shaking down a drone manufacturer while the country is at war.
So, a legal advisor at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and her son just got busted by the SBU. Their scheme was impressively low-level: they basically held a drone manufacturer hostage over paperwork. When a Russian attack burnt down the manufacturer's warehouse, the company needed a standard certificate to avoid massive government fines for late delivery. Instead of just helping, the advisor dragged out the process and demanded €100,000 for the document.
She even brought her own son in to act as the bagman for the payout. They got caught red-handed while picking up the second half of the bribe. It really takes a special kind of person to look at a defense contractor dealing with fire damage and decide it's the perfect time to pad their own pockets.
Some people will clearly do anything for a buck, even when the whole country is burning.
