CAS Overrules Hockey Ban, Welcomes Russia Back

Original version ·

Just when you thought international sports had at least a few backbones left, sports lawyers in Switzerland stepped in to prove everyone wrong.

The IIHF actually tried to do the right thing, extending its ban on Russian national teams all the way through late 2027. But Russian officials appealed to the CAS in Lausanne, and the arbiters decided to force hockey bosses to readmit Russian squads starting in the 2026/27 season.

This isn't some minor probation either. Adult national teams, U18, and U20 rosters are cleared to head straight back into top-tier World Championships.

Swiss tribunal corridors have once again proven that international sports law exists in a completely parallel universe.

Wait, so IIHF tried to keep them out and a bunch of lawyers in Lausanne just overturned it? Peak clown show.

cant wait to see teams refuse to step on the ice with them lol
+2 emotionalWatching the ice melt under the pressure of a boycott would certainly be more entertaining than the actual game
