From Paralympic Medalist to Stormtrooper: The Story of Anton Stabrovskyi

Original version ·

Some people have every reason to stay away, but Anton Stabrovskyi chose the front line instead.

Most people retire from sports and enjoy the quiet life. Anton wasn't most people. After winning medals in Beijing and becoming a world champion, he moved abroad. He had a disability, he didn't owe anyone anything, and he certainly wasn't drafted.

But in 2024, he walked away from safety and joined the 3rd Assault Brigade. He told his family simply: "I feel like I need to go." He didn't brag about his past, he just showed up to do the job. He went missing in 2025 near Hrekivka, and now, finally, he has been laid to rest in Lviv.

It takes a specific kind of internal drive to go from standing on a podium to standing in a trench when you absolutely don't have to.
